Due West...From the South

A few years back a client sold their business and moved across the country to start working again in the family business. It was great to get the call when the new...old (been around since 1975)...was ready to develop a company brand.

Triple H Builders, owned and operated by the Hershberger family, works out of Due West, South Carolina. So if you are looking to build a custom home, garage or barn, and would like a daily laugh (from Loren), and complete confidence in your builder, contact Triple H.

P.S. Sweet Tea goes along way with the guys!

A Special Client

Smalltown Design has recently partnered with a client that is near and dear to us...us!

In 2013 my wife, Kelsey, and I began to discuss a project that would bring together our collective abilities, allow us to work together, and in many ways be a reflection of our every day lives. In late November, 2015 we launched the website for Full of Days.

Full of Days currently serves as a creative outlet for us: writing, design, apparel, growing a blog and provides a canvas for us to audition ideas that we can then apply to other Smalltown Design clients. How does the saying go? Find a way to earn a living doing what you love and you will never work a day in your life...We love this project!

Veteran's Day 2015: Thank You

To 21.8 million Veterans:

According to a 2014 article in the US News & World Report there are 21.8 million Veterans currently in the USA.

How do you let 21.8 million people know that you are thankful for them?

My name is Jason. Allow me to introduce my wife Kelsey, and our children; Malia, Zadok, Maclin, and Elias….and that is our black Lab, Ruger. We live in North Idaho and love our life.

We first thank God for everything we have… and then we thank you…all 21.8 million of you, and the millions whose steps you have followed in.

We have a home…because you were willing to walk out your front door and into foreign lands. We have a marriage…because many of you put marriages on hold while serving. We have children…because so many of you missed out on long stretches of your children’s lives. We live free…because you took an oath and backed down to no one to protect freedom. We live…because all of you have sacrificed, many with the ultimate sacrifice.

The majority of veterans that I know, or have met, are somewhat uncomfortable with recognition. As if to say of their service time “I was just doing my job”.

Our family will never meet all 21.8 million of you, and I do not presume to think that you ever question “why” regarding your decision to serve.

But if you do ever ask “why”…

If as a family member of a Veteran, you ever ask “why”…

My name is Jason, this is my wife Kelsey, my daughter Malia and sons Zadok, Maclin and Elias. As a father, a husband, and as a family…Thank you for your service.

The Wise Guide

Over the last few months, Smalltown Design has been working with Jonnie Bradley and The Wise Guide to develop their new website.

The Wise Guide is an established print publication, serving as a Health and Wellness Resource for North Idaho. If you have picked up a previous edition of The Wise Gide then you have seen an informative and well designed magazine. Smalltown Design's challenge was to design a website that matched the quality, and maintained the warm and welcoming feel, of the print version. While also incorporating a more modern feel for internet visitors and offering social media options. We are ecstatic with the results!

The Wise Guide is a vast resource for anyone with questions about getting older. With articles on Physical, Financial and Mental Health, answers to questions on Insurance, Independent or Assisted living, and plenty of guidance on how to make decisions about the later stages of life, The Wise Guide is great free resource!

Visit their new website and watch for weekly content updates.

What's In Your Basement?

New Arrivals

Men's and women's Henley's and Hoodies; Kid's long sleeves, infant shirts...Oatmeal, smoke, onyx, organic heaven (that's the blue)...organic materials, made in the USA...all blank canvases...what ever can we do with these???!!!

Very excited to have received this order of assorted apparel test pieces. The initial reaction is SWEEEEETTT! The pieces appear to live up to the quality craftsmanship promised by the manufacture...and we are blown away by the feel of the fabrics - exceptionally soft to the touch! (Had to fight Kelsey off from wearing them already)

From here we will get a feel for how the sizing runs and begin testing our in-house printing process and designs.

Coming to a shop near you? Probably not at this early stage. But who knows, maybe there will be a few limited editions available for that special Christmas present you are looking for this year.

Stay tuned!

New Business Cards for the Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce. Always great working with Jaycee and Patti on creating a design that reflects the county!

Some Assembly Required!

Smalltown Design recently purchased a Riley Hopkins screen press from Screenprinting.com.

From Steal Like An Artist - Austin Kleon (if you do not have it buy it!):

"If I'd waited to know who I was or what I was about before I started "being creative," well, I'd still be sitting around trying to figure myself out instead of making things. In my expereience, it's in the act of making things and doing our work that we figure out who we are. You're ready. Start making stuff".

We are taking the advice! There is also great inspiration in "getting your hands dirty" as part of the creative process - so we went ahead and invested in a screen press. Not to become a screen printer (we have really good venders for that), but to create one-offs and limited runs (up to 60 pieces)  for unique projects. We also simply want to try out designs - see them come to life through a wearable medium.

We also found a vender for Made in the USA, organic apparel, delivery of initial order is tomorrow! More on that in an upcoming post.

Winter is coming fast!

Friend and long time client Girod Construction recently added Spray Foam Polyurethane Insulation to their list of construction services. So Smalltown Design updated their previous NCR Forms (invoices) with a new image, for visual enforcement, as well as text to communicate their new venture.

Winter is coming fast! If you have been think about improving your insulation then give Cornelius and Bonnie Girod a call!
